Happy holidays! We're in that quiet week before New Year's Day, when I love to enjoy family and friends, but feel guilty about not doing writing stuff. To assuage my guilt, I did a quick review of my 2026 goals and realized, whoa! New Year's Day is almost here. Suddenly, I felt like a starting gun was about to go off, which will send me typing for all I'm worth to hit my self-imposed targets.
Of course that's a sure way to burn out, as Sara Stibitz on her terrific Substack, a ladder to the stars, discusses. She writes about creativity, and writing in particular, and in a recent post, Set Writing Goals That Actually Work, she talks about not starting with deadlines but assessing yourself and your habits first.
Her thoughtful approach reminded me about my writing brag sheet--which can help you set your foundation as you consider what you want to achieve in the coming year, factoring in Sara's excellent advice.
