Frequently Asked Questions

I Find Inspiration in Writing and Help from Writing Groups

1. Why did you start writing and what was your first book?

My background is in business communications. But in 2024, I was able to adjust my priorities, which allowed me to take the handcuffs off my writer self. As my first step, I self-published my nonfiction, The Write Group, in September 2024.

2. What is your first book about?

The Write Group helps new writers tap into the superpower of writing groups to achieve their writing goals. I share advice, tips and stories about writing groups. Some of those stories are my own personal experiences, and some are experiences that other authors shared with me.

3. What inspired you to write your first book?

For years I was nervous about owning my writing and sharing my creative work. Then I was lucky to meet some wonderful writing buddies who helped me grow my confidence. With their support and encouragement, I was able to set and achieve writing goals, grow in my craft, and learn about the work of becoming an author.

4. Do you have other nonfiction books?

I have another nonfiction ebook, From Draft to Craft: A New Writer's Guide to Feedback, which launched in July 2025 through ebook retailers (e.g., Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Smashwords, etc.). This ebook is targeted to people who are new to writing and want some insight into the writing feedback process--which can be scary! The premise of the ebook is: You get better at writing by giving and getting feedback.

5. Where can I buy your books?

The Write Group is available currently on Amazon and other major ebook retailersFrom Draft to Craft: A New Writer's Guide to Feedback is available from ebook retailers.

6. Do you write fiction?

You bet! I'm currently working on a gothic mystery/horrormance. What's that? It's a genre mash up with elements of gothic romance, mystery and horror. If you're a reader of Sharon Lynn Fisher, Eve Silver, or Bea Northwick, for example, my book is comparable. Please subscribe to get story and writing process sneak peeks as I work toward my targeted 2026 release. But you don't have to wait to read my stories: Visit Darker Stories for short stories that have a gothic-vibe and explore dark themes with a sprinkling of suspense, magic and otherworldliness. You can also visit my paranormal romance minibook, Dream Walkers: Heart & Hand, available for free on Wattpad. (It's a slow-burn romance with supernatural elements in serialized format--a fast read!)

7. Can I get an advance copy of your upcoming gothic mystery book?

My rollout process is not finalized, but if you want to raise your hand to become a beta reader or join my launch team, sign up and leave me a message. My plan is to communicate with beta readers by early 2026, and I'll be able to share more details then.

8. Do you coach writing groups?

I truly believe in the magic of writing groups. I've seen people, who have struggled for years to put pen to paper finally finish their novel, publish their poetry, or send out the query letter--all because of the support and encouragement from the right team of writers. If you'd like your writing group to be your source of strength and motivation, then send me a message. Let's chat!

9. Are you in a writing group now?

Yes. I belong to a critique circle that exchanges works-in-progress for feedback, plus I belong to an accountability group, where I set my weekly goals and then report on how I did. Both help me sustain my writing practice.
