S.A. Kazlo is the author of the Samantha Davies Mystery series.

I'm pleased to introduce S.A. Kazlo, author of the Samantha Davies Mystery series, (The seventh book in the series, A Pawsome Summer for Murder, releases today! Visit www.sakazlo.com.) We first connected through timed writing sprints--both of us believe sprints are fabulous for focusing on writing projects. We also share another belief--that libraries are invaluable to writers! In this post, S.A. talks about her library writers group and how it fuels her creativity and informs her writing. You can keep up with her latest updates and enjoy pictures of her dachshund, Porkchop, on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X.

My writing journey began in high school when I was the page two editor of my school newspaper. Here I am decades later and still remember the encouragement I got from the teacher who was the paper’s sponsor.

Now I belong to a writers’ group through my local library. It’s a group of us who write in various genres from my cozy mysteries, to historical fiction, gory crime, romance, and a fellow writer who is penning books for each of her ten grandchildren. While some of their writing may not be my cup of tea, we’re all there to support each other.  We meet two times a month to critique and encourage each other’s work and because of this I’ve grown as a writer.

One of the members has been helpful in passing along possible tidbits I could possibly include in my books. My series features a female sleuth, Samantha Davies and her dachshund, Porkchop. This writer friend and member of my critique group sent me an article about a dog bar that is opening  near where she lives. Will I include that in the latest book in my series, absolutely. Sam and Porkchop will make a trip to a doggie bar.

Not only does my writers’ group support me at our meetings, I often see their friendly faces at my book signings.

If your local library doesn’t have a writers’ group, seek out the head librarian and see if you can’t start one. The writers don’t have to write in your genre. I’m sure they all have the same goal--perfecting their craft.

Syrl Kazlo, a retired teacher, lives in upstate New York with her husband a lively dachshund and a wannabe dachshund (That’s a long story.). She writes the Samantha Davies Mystery series, featuring Samantha Davies and her loveable dachshund, Porkchop. When not writing she is busy hooking, rug hooking that is, and enjoying her family.

All her books can be purchased through her author site at https://www.sakazlo.com/, including her newest book, A Pawsome Summer For Murder, number seven in the Samantha Davies Mystery series:
