A couple of gothic-literature podcasts for you!

I got a question about one of my recent posts: Where do I find gothic book titles? Well, I get books-to-read suggestions come from all over the place--such as, YouTube readers, Bluesky feeds, writer friends, and sometimes my local bookshop! But among my sources are two podcasts that regularly discuss gothic books. Even better, both podcasts go beyond the plot line to get into the themes, atmosphere, structural nuances, and the interplay between the character and the events of the story. If you're looking for gothic books to read, give these shows a listen:

  1. She Wore Black. This is my absolute fave book-discussion podcast for all books gothic and adjacent categories, such as historical dark mystery, romantic suspense, paranormal, supernatural and horrific. In each episode, the host, Agatha Andrews, interviews a current author for a rich discussion that can cover a multitude of topics, such as developments in the industry, reader trends, sub-genres and genre tropes. I am never disappointed: she and her guest offer many great reading recommendations.

  2. Talking the Gothic. Essie Fox, author of Catherine, A Retelling of Wuthering Heights, hosts this young podcast (episodes started in May 2025), so the format seems to be evolving. To date, Essie has read excerpts from gothic literature, analyzed gothic literature elements, and interviewed current authors. While the content might vary, she always shares intriguing titles, some old and some new, to tickle your gothic fancy.

BTW, since I mentioned the classic Wuthering Heights, the New York Times Book Review is hosting a Wuthering Heights book club experience during February, I'm super excited and looking forward to February 27, when the Book Review Podcast will discuss it. (And I'm guessing that other gothic book titles will come up during the conversation.)
